Then in. the last
quarter we have the dawn
signalized by the growth of such powerful indigenous institutions as the Indian National
Congress, the Arya Samaj and the Rama Krishna Mission. And, finally in the early years of
the present century, along with the awakening of the Asiatic nations symbolized by the
victory of Japan over Czarist Russia came the sunrise of Indian Nationalism and with it a
Renaissance of Hinduism. The leading figures in
the present Renaissance are Sri Rama Krishna Paramahamsa and his great disciple Swami
Vivekananda, Mrs. Annie Beasent of the Theosophical Society, Sri Aurobindo of the
Pondicherry Ashram, Mahatma Gandhi, Rabindranath Tagore, Sri Ramana Maharshi of
Tiruvannamalai, and Dr. S. Radha Krishnan, to mention only a few. These great personages
by their talks, speeches and writings have not only brought about a Renaissance of
Hinduism in India but also made our religion better known among the educated classes of
Europe and America. |
