AZHAGAR KOIL

Karuppannaswami has no image and two massive wooden doors of  entrance to the gopuram at the 18th step are dedicated to
him. The doors are worshipped with all veneration. As, Karuppannaswami said to have been brought from the North, devotees stand facing towards the North and offer worship to him. This is the main entrance of temple but will be seen closed always.

The entrance is kept open only once a year at the time of Brahma Utsava. It is believed that a ma who utters a falsehood here and passes through the gate of eighteen steps will come to a miserable end. The parties agreeing to follow the affirmation made in this manner have settled many a civil suit. A fee of Rs. 5.50 is charged by the temple to record such affirmation made before this deity.
