GANDHI MANDAPAM |
|
A massive
structure known as The Gandhi Mandapam, in the. Orissa style as seen at Bhuvaneswar, has
been constructed by the Government of India to commemorate the immersion at the Cape of
the sacred ashes of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. At the place where the ceremonial rites were performed before immersion into the
sea a big hall has been constructed. The particular spot where the ashes were first kept
is indicated by a statue of Mahatma Gandhi and the great engineering skill in the
construction of the hall is that at the top of the roof a hole has been made in such a way
that, at mid-day on 2nd October, the Sun shines exactly on the forehead of the statue,
signifying thereby the emergence of the LIGHT OF INDEPENDENCE by the selfless efforts of
the Mahatma.
