It
happened at Kancheepuram Kamakshi Amman Temple, way back in the days of Sri
Sankaracharya's living there for worshipping that Jagajjanani, the most
formidable Kriyasakthi aspect of that Omkaraswarupini Adiparashakthi. Now a
little bit of information about the temple goes a long way for full
comprehension. so read.
This
temple city is divided into two parts, but they are one and one only for all
practical purposes; like the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. These
parts are called Siva Kanchi and Vishnu Kanchi, popularly known as Big Kanchi
and Little Kanchi respectively . The Kamakshi Amman temple is located in Big
Kanchi anal it is in the heart of the city. It is an ancient temple with an
imposing tower facing the east. It enshrines the famous Chakra representing
Mother Parvathi called here Kamakshi. The Chakra is placed in front of the
archamurti but not below the image as found in other places, where the yantra
receives prayers. It also houses the image of Sankaracharya in a separate
mini-shrine.
