Now
comes Palani Andavar, who like Srirama magnanimously ordained that worship to be
given to Idumban under different circumstances, yet it reflects his meritorious
decision taken, when the fallen Idumban was given life at the instance of the
great sage-seer Agasthya. In addition to ordaining prathama puja, he made him
serve in the capacity of security at his gate. Is was hailed by the defeated and
accepted it at once. Instantly he transformed himself into the chief security
officer to keep guard of the said Dhandayudhapani temple. Since then Agrapuja is
being offered to him nonstop. Now understand the background for this tradition
odd.
According
to the legend, Muruga left Kailas when the gnanaphal was given to Vinayaka. He
arrived at this hill called Sivagiri then, materialised by sage Agasthaya along
with it another bearing the name of Edumbu Malai. Agasthya performed penance
here for some time, due to its extra-ordinary sublimity
and sanctity. Before moving further down, he asked his powerful demon servant to
follow him carrying the two hills with him tying them on to a Kavadi. He did.
While walking, he found the Edumbu Malai going up in to air. He placed two heavy
stones on the lighter Edumbu Hill to equalize the weight, but could not balance
it however much he tried. He stopped to find out the cause. When scrutinized, he
found Subrahmanya on the hilt, then found lower. In the exchange of words
followed by fighting, the demon was killed. At the intervention of Agasthya, he
was given life.
