Probing
a little we realise that sleep is a must to every tired body. Bodily organism
needs rest after toil. Continuous work, if spread over a long period, it impairs
the normal health and saps the vital powers of the body. Then neither farther
work can be resumed, nor it maintains its quality. Has not the world's highest
International Labour Organisation set limits to duration of work? What for night
follows day, if not for affording rest and relaxation to the fatigued bodies and
fevered minds? Work without rest comes to naught. Hence the advocacy of rest.
Even Gods are no exceptions to this rule, they too clamor for restful nights and
peaceful days. This is vividly illustrated in this temple as exemplified by the
Mother going to bed three times a year. Does that not mean, she turns oblivious
of her duties caught in the grip of Amorphous, the goddess of sleep-Nidradevi ?
Neverone is called and fittingly titled Jagriti- ever wakeful and vigilant.
Nights let not slip her grasp over duty, nor days see over burdened. She
exercises full control over her senses. So She ordained the sleeping ritual to
be performed, if goes disregarded, it is sacrilege and sanctimony. Now read for
full illumination.
