back-ground for full illuminations is given below.
The antiquity of the temple can be traced to the Vedic times. The Rig Veda
embodies evidence of its existence along with the poetry of the Sangam Age.
Monarchs of inter-planetary reputation belonging into several dynasties, like
Pallava, Chola, Pandya and Vijayanagara vied with one another to empty their
treasuries to build and endow this great shrine together with the propagation of
Its glory through several means. Hence it has turned out a supreme place of
worship growing to such an extent to be deemed the richest temple in Asia, with
an annual income exceeding Rs. 300 crores. The unbroken religious worship
carried on for more than 1,300 years speaks of its immaculate sanctity and
incalculable spiritual wealth. Celebrated Pravakthas and spiritual luminaries of
the world have eulogized its glory by their speeches and literary works. It is
said that installation of a potent Yantra and Dhana Aakarshana Chakram by
