Another
one is Mata Kanakadurga's temple. It is a much-frequented popular
shrine, and the deity has become a household Goddess of millions of
people here and around the region. Kanakadurga and Vijayawada are so
interlinked and they are not two in one, but one in two. Mention
Kanakadurga, VijayaVda in its glory parades before our mental eyes;
utter Vijayawada, Kanakadurga
in her ethereal splendor stands before you and beckons a visit to
her Sannidhi. No theist goes back without worshipping her in his
visit to this city, whatever may be the pressure of time exerts on
him. Modern Vijayawada owes its name, glory, prosperity to this
All-Powerful Jaganmata, whose bounteous benignity is making it grow
to dasadisas to the jealousy of many cities in Andhra Pradesh, or
other states. The citizens too are equally grateful and enthusiastic
in displaying their pure devotion by spending lacs of rupees on
festival days and conducting regular puja as on a grand scale
proving worthy other Vatsalya. Now let us go to the river
Krishnaveni for holy a bath before reaching the precincts of the
Mother's Temple for darsan. The sanctity of the kshetra thus
established was further enhanced by the thirtham-waters of Krishna
river flowing since the beginning of the creation. Its perennial
flow touching the base of the hill even now, has its own story. And
a strange one too. The belief is corroborated by concrete, tangible
pieces of evidence.
