This
famous ancient temple too claims a river and goes by the name of Shanmuga river.
And it is about 2 Km. off Adivaram - foot of the temple and is accessible by bus
or rickshaw. On the bank of this there is situated Peru-Udayar temple dedicated
to Lord Siva. As it lies amidst sylvan setting, its multi coloured beauty serves
a grand feast to the eyes.
The
temple is enshrined with a big Swayambhu linga and hence deemed of having great
pull and sacredness. There are many minishrines installed with Saivate gods,
like Dakshinamurthi. Chandikeswarar, Vinayaka etc, Strange to observe that no
female deity greets anywhere here. Its plus point is - that
every kavadi bearer visiting the hill temple bathers in this for suspiciousness.
It has arrangement for easeful bath and so preferred for pindapradan and
postmortem rituals to be offered to the dead. There lie many other temples in
its vicinity dedicated to female deities too.
