Fascinating legends are wove round the mortals, who displayed spectacular soul power. The ruling king Dharmavarma brought the highest gods by penance and achieved what he desired. Hence the existence of temples and punya thirthas in this thirtha kshetra that earned the august title Dharma Pitha and also Dakhina Kasi.  Among the temples, the one perpetuating the glory of woman merits first mention and instant veneration.

The story goes that the chat woman Satya vathi  the wife of, Dharmangada of puranic fame traversed all over Bharatha  Khand and dipped in every holy river to get rid of a terrible curse that changed her husband into a serpent. At last it is her with a single dip in river Godavari her husband regained his original human form.
