This
is a modern popular shrine emerged for pubblic worship by the indefatigable devotion
of great upasaka by name Vijayanarayanji, a pundit of Kasi, well-versed in
tantric lore and expert in agama sastras. Being a great devotee of Mother
Durga; he decided to build a mandir and carry on devotional activities and to
rouse the slumbering theistic instincts of people residing in Hosangabad town
and its surroundings. Utilizing the goodwill and philanthropic nature of many
locals, he starter building the temple and soon cooperation from public materialized
his long cherished ambition. Locals call this mandir endearingly
Durga Kutir and participate with great ardour. Besides the nithyanaimithika pujas,
on Sivaratri and Navaratri days special pujas are offered that lure unmanageable
crowds coming from far off places. On this gala days, the punditji offers pujas in
accordance with tantric sastras. People participate lustily and spend lavishly on
devotional programmes. As the founder-builder was a great devotee and dedicated
his whole life to the service of the Mother, he was fittingly rewarded by Mother in
fulfilling his ambitions, says the local.
