  AIHOLE - BANASANKARI DEVALAYA

The structures of some are apse, like the Durga temple and out of hundred or so, fifty of them lie within the fort and the rest outside. With these, Aihole has earned a covetable place in the sculptural map of India.

The Banasankari temple lying near Badami is outstanding and occupies a significant place among the temples of this region. This three storeyed shrine with a queer tower beckons the visitors and elevates the asthikas with Mother  Banasankari's grand image sitting astride the lion. Though lying in ruins, this shrine is luring a steady influx of yatris, who visit the ruins for both profit and pleasure The deout among them offer elaborate prayers. It is the principal shrine and has replicas scattered throughout Karnataka. She is a powerful deity and showers boons on the devotees liberally even now dispute lying in ruins. And hence immense popularity.

It lies 19 km. off Pabtadakkal, accessible by bus.
