Lying
on the outskirts of Banglore, this Saktrsthal is luring a perennial stream of
devotees through out the year. Conducting of Rahukala Puja on Sundays is its
star-attraction, when its vast compounds overflow with devout bhaktas, among
them women folk form the majority. It is an ancient temple built in the
Dravidian architectural style with a prakara and mahadwara surmounting a modest
sized gopura and many mini shrines for parivaradevathas. There are separate pavilions
for the many adorable icons during the special prayer services,
like Rahukala puja. The Mother draped in colourful rustling silk and dazzling
jewels gives darsan seated in the spacious garbh griha. She is facing east.
There are many images of serpent gods behind the temple under the Aswartha
Vriksha receiving ardent prayers regularly. The Mother is the replica of the widely
known and much hallowed Banasankari of Aihole, that was devoutly adored by
the ruling princes in the days of yore and her infinite compassion emancipated
lakhs of persons and has been going on doing even today. Here in this shrine too
hoary traditions are observed and people with soulful prayers are getting
liberated to their satisfaction. This alone is the important factor contributing
tot he perpetuation and propagation of bhakti cult and its glory in this
region.
It lies 15 km off Bangalore bus stand and accessible by
city bus.
