Jabalpur,
the erstwhile capital of Gond dynasty and one of the premier cities of Madhya
Pradesh is preserving many monuments of eternal importance. Besides the forts
and tanks, the rich heritage of the past, there are some excellent places of
worship drawing people perennially. The ancient temples have been commanding
steady streams of pilgrims over centuries. The Malhadevi temple was built in
twelth century near Garha, now forming an integral part of the ever progressing
modern Jabalpur town. The
temple is quite majestic and with renovations it has become one of the landmarks
of the town. Its architectural style with rich sculptural adornment feasts the
eyes of the visitors. As it is dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi, its fascination for
commercial people is enormous and they offer several kinds of prayers regularly
with great devotional fervor. Periodical festivals are celebrated with pomp and
splendour befitting the status of the capital and its rich merchants. She is
popular as Mother Mahalakshmi the local bhaktas. A largely visited temple of
great spiritual significance.
It is in
the city of Jabalpur, accessible by bus and train connecting it to different
