Gradually
the village developed into a big town and attracted the attention of rulers of
Kongunadu dynasty. One of the princes by name Kosar Marabinaar realising its
potentialities and strategic location, built a fort and installed the same deity
in a moderately built temple inside the fort itself. He fancied to name her the
chief security goddess for the whole region under his hegemony. When genuine
prayers were offered to her by his subjects, the area soon developed into
dasadisas by the infinite grace of this benevolent Mother, who rose to the
satisfaction of kings and people. She spared no effort to seeing it advanced in
all realms of human activity people prospered, industries flourished, business
expanded, lands yielded bumper corps etc., all in few years. All because of her
boundless compassion and acting as ever wakeful sentinel of the place, she is
entrusted with. And this deity Koniamma metamorphosed from the humble stage of
gramadevata to Nagara palaki of unparalleled importance. Etymologically the name
Koniamma is pregnant with rich meaning and justifies her role; for, Koni means
queen, whereas, kon stands for king.
