Another
famous sage by name Patanjali who came and settled down here to worship that
linga heard from Vyagrapada about the splendour of cosmic dance he once
witnessed. It can be availed only with Paramasiva's descending and dancing
before them. The clue for it lies in getting sakshatkara of Bhagawan.
So they did penance. Gratified Maheswar blessed them with his appearance and
started dancing. Then the arrogant, overbearing simpleton Mahakali - the
gramadevatha said that she was an expert in dancing and could beat any. Saying,
she joined Paramasiva dancing at the humble supplication of the sages. Poor she!
she could not come nearer to Paramasiva's 'superb skill in every bout,
particularly in the Urdhva Tandavanritya feat. Cutting a sorry figure, she chose
this place and stationed herself for ever offering apologies to Lord Siva
profusely. As she confers boons liberally, she became a house hold deity of many
in the area Later beneficiaries built a grand temple equipped with all. This
grama devata is equally famous and is luring a steady stream of bhaktas round
the year.
It
lies in Chidambaram, accessible by cycle rickshaw from any part of the town.
