This 14 feet by 10 feet imposing Ganapathy icon,
going by the name of Dodda Ganapathy, enshrined in a 12th
century temple in Basavangudi, Bangalore is no misnomer,
viewed from any angle, or measured by any yardstick to be precise. The ever increasing concourse of adorers right from
the tattering aged couple down to the tiny tots speak volumes of compassion this Dodda Ganapathy is capable of showering on the
deserving. The temple as the word goes is a marvelous contribution of the
Pallavas. They adorned this region with numerous sculptural pieces for the
adoration and emancipation of the people. Many shrines - some in ruins and a
few in unfaded majesty are luring devotees since then.
This Dodda Ganapathy being large in heart and liberal in granting is
occupying a covetable place in the hearts of general public since then. He has
a passion for converting piteous cries into blissful smiles of all kinds of
duhkarthis who are visiting and praying him soulfully. Among them, weaving
community form majority, led by the examination going students, who
invariably visit this temple for success in the exam. During March and April
huge groups of students throng this shrine and place their hall tickets at the
lotus feet of the Lord for success. Dodda Ganapathy keeps up his image by
granting boons of the deserving and delights himself at the sight of the adorers
immerse in the ocean of joy at their success.
