It
is said that this Swaymavyakta image was found during the digging operations at
the large tank near the Thyagaraja College. It is a specimen of excellent
craftsmanship, and its finish and execution are marvelous. It is about twelve
feet in height. And installed on high dias of about five feet.
The
second one is only about a foot and a half lying near the flight of stairs at
the south entrance, facing east. All, invariably worship this Lord with ash
pouring over the head. And there are scores of such images of all sizes in the
temple in several places. Though they are adored, these two are receiving devout
prayers from every visitor without fail. Yet, there are scores of others, like
Maapillai Vinayakar and Siddhi Vinayakar at several places in this town
receiving regular prayers with great fervor.
This
temple is in the heart of the famous pilgrim city, Madurai - Tamilnadu near bus
stand and railway station, accessible by walk even.
