Gayatri were brought from Bodh Gaya and were installed in befitting
mini-shrines. Utilizing his prestigious office of royal astrologer, serving the
devout Rajarshi Sri Krishnarajendra Odayar of Mysore, he obtained 126 acres of
land as inam and commenced building and expanding the temple to attract all
kinds of devotees. He introduced a novel tradition o1 performing abhishek to 'Vel
' duly decorating it and infusing divinity into it. In course of time, its fame
mounted and brought lakhs of Harohara cult of Subrahmanyaswamy with Kavadis. At
this juncturc a divine cobra, another form of Subrahmanya appeared on the
hill and attracted the public. A grand shrine was built for him to facilitate
devotees to offer prayers. As donations started pouring in, several amenities,
like flight of stairs along with a beautiful image of Subrahmanya were added.
After the demise that much revered Sastry, his sons took over the charge of the
administration and augmented every segment of the temple. As the presiding deity
is munificently raining boons and curing ailments like leprosy, epilopsy etc the temple is luring a steady influx of devotees
round the year and they are offering regular and occasional prayers with unprecedented devotional fervour.
It has now become a spiritual fight house, illumining the dark and dismal lives
of lakhs of devotees.
It
lies in the Hanumanth Nagar of Bangalore, the metropolitan capital of Karnataka,
commanding auto, taxi etc to reach it.
