This hallowed Murugan shrine came into existence by the indefatigable
efforts of one Muruga bhakta called Ratnagiri Swamigal. He is the founder
builder-propagator of Murugan cult in this area in such an exemplary way that
his word was taken as Vedavak. And people readily succoured help in several
forms to make his bhakti take the form of temple and to standing as a beacon
light for the star-crossed people in the material world.
It is an imposing temple adorned with a fall Rajagopuram, seen for miles afar,
beckoning devotees to Murugan sannidhi for emancipation. Being a
hill temple, flight of stairs is not only indispensable, but adds to the joy of
frequent visits for adoration. So the founder with public donation and the
cooperation of willing devotees
caused the flight of stairs numbering exactly 178 built, and it is accelerating
ascent and drawing huge crowds. The superbly sculptured image of Murugan flanked
by Valli and Devasena is giving darsan and casts such an enchantment that the
bhaktas join their palms at first sight itself. The temple is facing east and
has all parts built in vast dimensions. This was visited by Arunagiri Swamigal,
who offered worship with his flowery verses. Regular and annual functions are
carried on with due devotion.
It is on the
Vellore - Arcot bus route, accessible by bus.
