The
temples of Neelakanteswaraswamy, Prasannakotiswaraswamy found at the
base of the hill are of recent origin, and during the annual
festivals prayers are offered to there deities first. Mahasivaratri
festival is the star attraction when lakhs of people congregate and
involve themselves in several kinds of prayer services, the
Rudrabhishekam, Sahasranamapuja top the list. Very many
congregational activities go on for days, when this entire region
surpasses Mount Kailas in splendour. A kind of decorated Kavadi
called PRABHA is very popular and nearly 500 of them are seen moving
in procession. Their visual appeal due to exuberant decoration is a
speciality that heigthens the splendour of the festival and glory of
