Imphal
- Sri Jagannath Mandir
The
self same Sri Govindaji temple at Imphal, the capital of Manipur houses an
independent Jagannath shrine in its vast compound. Although he is also a
Vaishnavate god, a glorious form of Sri Mahavishnu, he has independent name,
existence and legends, visualising the spectacular sports he
played for extending succour to His saranagathas. The Puri temple is the
Principal Jagannatha temple, having several customs and traditions of its own. They
are exercising great fascination and holding tight grip on all sections of
people. Several towns and cities have built separate, independent shrines to
Jagannath and are carrying on worship on the same pattern as at Puri. This
mini-shrine despite forming an integral part of Govindaji's temple is catering
to the taste and temperment of Jagannatha bhaktas. The visitors avail the damn
of Govindaji, in addition to that of their hearts' choicest god. Here the priest
coming down receives the offerings from bhaktas to performing ritualistic
prayer. This is invariably visited by Govindaji's bhaktas. So huge crowds
always.
It
lies in the capital of Manipal, enjoying all transport facilities.
