Pushkar
- Sri Venugopala Mandir
Pushkar,
the world-renowned Brahma kshetra houses many ancient temples, among
which Venugopalaswamy temple comes first for indispensable
visitation. The temple built in the Dravidian style of architecture
possesses several deities popularly adored by South Indians most. It
emanates typical Tamil culture as evidenced by the installation of
archamurtis in Dravidian style and having the names of deities and
mode of worship as practised in Tamilnadu such as Pundarikavalli
Tayar, Udaiyavar, Manavala Mahamuni, to speak only a few. The
archamurti-Venugopalaswamy graced his presence to Brahma and
conferred boons. The garbha griha is adorned with Mangala Vimana and
the temple tank is popular as Pushkara thirtha. This is counted as
one of the Swayamvyakta sthalas and is visited by a steady stream of
visitors throughout the year. Nithyanaimithika worship is offered
only in the South Indian style, though the temple is lying in the
north.
There
is another Vaishnavate temple here dedicated to Sri Rama. It is also
visited both by northerners and southerners. It also contains many
adorable parivaradevatas installed in befitting niches and
pavilions. The archamurtis image is exceedingly enchanting and
ignites devotional instincts at the first sight itself.
It
is 12 km off Ajmer, the erst-while princely capital of Rajputs
connected by rail, road, and airways upto Ajmer and from
there four wheelers.
