Sanctified by the padasparsa of Bhagawan Sri
Rama, this ancient Vaishnava kshetra has been
luring devotees since Tretayuga. It lies at the
foot hills of Satpura range and is very near to
Nagapur. It is also associated with the immortal
Sanskrit dramatist Kalidasa, who it is said,
composed here one of his master-pieces
'Meghadoot'. According to sthalapurana Sri
Rama during his exile rested here for sometime
with Sita and brother lakshman. Hence the apt
name. Many places bear names after him later.
The town houses many temples and places of
Pouranic importance, like Ramagiri Hill,
Ramasagar lake, Kailasa Mandir etc. Nestled in
the mountain range and surrounded by Nature's
sumptuous exquisite greenery, it holds out
inexhaustible attraction for tourists, more than
the devotees. The big town developed around
industrially holds big annual fairs lasting for 15
days, when lakhs visit to avail the darsan of the
Lord. The temple is fairly a big one and
conducts daily pujas with great devotional
fervor. There are many archaeological sites in
its surroundings, like Mansar and Navergaon
Kheri supplying a great wealth of historical
information to the scholars.
It lies 47 km off Nagapur,connected by rail and road.
