Ramtek - Sri Rama Mandir

Sanctified by the padasparsa of Bhagawan Sri Rama, this ancient Vaishnava kshetra has been luring devotees since Tretayuga. It lies at the foot hills of Satpura range and is very near to Nagapur. It is also associated with the immortal Sanskrit dramatist Kalidasa, who it is said, composed here one of his master-pieces 'Meghadoot'. According to sthalapurana Sri Rama during his exile rested here for sometime with Sita and brother lakshman. Hence the apt name. Many places bear names after him later. The town houses many temples and places of Pouranic importance, like Ramagiri Hill, Ramasagar lake, Kailasa Mandir etc. Nestled in the mountain range and surrounded by Nature's sumptuous exquisite greenery, it holds out inexhaustible attraction for tourists, more than the devotees. The big town developed around industrially holds big annual fairs lasting for 15 days, when lakhs visit to avail the darsan of the Lord. The temple is fairly a big one and conducts daily pujas with great devotional fervor. There are many archaeological sites in its surroundings, like Mansar and Navergaon Kheri supplying a great wealth of historical information to the scholars.

It lies 47 km off Nagapur, connected by rail and road.
