A LOVING DISPOSITION

It is well known that the bravest warrior is often the most tenderhearted. Parimela- zhagar's interpretation of this Kural is different. Maram in his commentary is the contrary of aram and he explains the verse to mean that love overcomes wrath and enmity, and helps a man not only himself to do the right, but also to overcome the wrong done by others.

Tamil literature also another meaning besides the one Parimelazhagar has taken up. It stands for the virtues of the soldier (see Kural Ch. 39-4), and I think that is the sense in which the word is used in this verse, and it makes the use of the word appropriate.
