He gave him the ruby, too. The king was satisfied. On the Mula nakshatra day, God changed all the jackals of a forest into fine horses and drove them to the king’s palace.

God himself rode at the head of the procession. The king was very pleased to see such excellent horses.

He praised his minister. The horses were led away to the royal stables.

At midnight, however, all the horses turned back into jackals, and ran into the forest howling!

When the king came to know of it he became very angry. He put Vaadavoorar in prison.The king’s men bound Vaadavoorar ‘in chains and beat him.
