FIVE, hundred years
ago there lived in Talwandi village in Punjab a man who was an accountant by
profession. His name was Kalu Chand. He was a Kshatriya by caste. His wife was Tripta. To
them were born a son and a daughter. They called them Nanak and Nanaki. From his childhood, Nanak had a love of God.
Kalu Chand 'sent Nanak to school at the age of seven. At school
Nanak did not attend to his studies. He always sat silent.
Outside the school he sang of God's great -ness in the company
of other boys of the village.
One day his teacher said to him: "Why do you idle your
time in the class?"
Nanak said: "Sir, I like to think more of God than of my
lessons." |
