The teacher at once
knew Nanak would become a great saint one day. Kalu
Chand appointed private tutors to teach Nanak Hindi, Sanskrit and Persian. From all of
them Nanak tried to learn more about God than about languages.
Nanak was married to a girl called Sulak- shana. They had two
sons. Yet Nanak did not try to earn any money to make a living.
Sister Nanaki took Nanak to Sultanpur. There, her husband got
him the post of a storekeeper. For a time Nanak worked hard, but soon started giving away
food- stuffs like atta to sannyasis with out taking money in return.
One day, he left the job, and went to a forest to meditate on
God.
In the forest Nanak did tapas. God appeared before him, and
said: "Always say my name, and teach others to do the same." |
