HIGHEST VIRTUES

The first of these virtues is truth, and speaking it factually, as seen, heard, understood and experienced by one self. It should not hurt others. It also involves looking at all, with equanimous eyes. This goes by the name Satya.

The next is sympathy for the sufferings of others, be they friends or foes, in total disregard of inconvenience to oneself. It

involves the ready offer of asylum to others at all costs. This is called Daya.

The third virtue consists in the strict observance of austerities like fasting. It is known as Tapas.

Next in importance is physical cleanliness derived from regular baths, forgoing non-eatables, non-association with undesirables, and doing one's own allotted span of work. This goes by the name Saucha.
