The Gods that are
worshipped in the temples are varied and almost all the Gods of the Hindu pantheon find a
place here. Siva in Linga rupa, Siva in other aspects, Vishnu, Ganapati, Subrahmanya,
Bhagavati, Durga are all worshipped in the various temples of Andhra. The recent
excavations at Nagarjunakonda have brought to light a Pushpabhadraswamy Alaya dedicated to
Lord Siva, with a
Dhwajastambha. This is probably the earliest
temple in India of which we know. Andhra Desa is rich in sacred temples and Tirthas and
also represents a cross - section of the various styles of temple architecture right from
the earliest days to the most modern days. We can by a study of the architectural styles
and the Iconography of the temples trace their evolution in course of time. |
