UCHAITHA

Introduction

There is a modern temple of Durga oil ali obviously ancient site at Uchaitha village, which is about 30 miles north-west of Darbhanga railway station of the North- Eastern Railway. Passenger buses ply from Darbhanga to Benipatti a distance of 26 miles.

From Benipatti to Uchaitha there is an unmetalled road for three miles. This road becomes impassable for the vehicles excepting bullock carts during the rainy season. Benipatti has rickshaws, ekkas and bullock carts, which could be hired to reach Uchaitha.

Benipatti is the headquarters of the police station. It has a Block Development Office and a Post Office.People outside Bihar do not usually know that local legends widely prevalent in Mithila associate Kalidasa, the immortal poet in the court of ancient Ujjain, with Uchaitha during his early years as a student.
