It is said that the prayer of Raja Balbir Sen did work and the rains
were stopped. Blabir Sen was released with full honors and Mandi State with all that had
been looted was restored to him. The Raja fulfilled his vow. Since then the Shyama Kali is
held in very great veneration and the temple is visited by thousands of pilgrims every
year.
Jwala Mukhi
Jwala Mukhi located at Pong village and on
the top of the periphery of the reservoir constructed for damming the Beas River is
venerated as a very sacred spot. It is said that when Lord Siva was dancing round the
world in fury with the dead body of his spouse Sati and Lord Vishnu with his mace was
cutting the body to pieces to relieve Lord Siva and bring him to his senses the tongue of
gati fell at the place which is now known as Jwala Mukhi and from where several flames
appeared and continued burning day and night.
The legend is that-
Raja Bhumi Chand Katoch of Kangra, a great
devotee of goddess Durga, dreamt of the sacred place and the Raja set people to find out
the whereabouts of the site. The site was traced and the Raja built a temple. The burning
flames and the complex have come to be known as Jwala Mukhi. |
