roof of the mandapa into roughly built domes.
Even as a mosque it does not seen, to have been in use much
longer, since there is nothing to prove in the shape of repairs or maintenance.
Mirat-i-Ahmadi of Ali Mohammad Khan written in A.D. 1760
does not testify to its use as a mosque at that time.14 The death of Aurangzeb in A.D.
1707 resulted in general disorder and widespread anarchy, notably in the viceroyalty of
Gujarat. The rapid succession of emperors on the imperial throne had undermined the
solidarity of the empire; the Marathas were challenging the Mughal authority both in the
peninsula and Gujarat.
