Once
a sage by name Kalavar stayed in Pullaranyam. He performed tapas meditating on Lord
Vasudeva for his salvation. Janardana him darsan and told him that till the end of his
life, he should stay that place, doing penance and then join him in Heaven. He also him
that if any done troubled him the Chakrayudha would come to his rescue. Some time passed.
On a Dwadasi day, he took his bat Chakra Teertham and was ready to take his food after the
Ekadashi fasting then a Demon caught hold of him. Kalavar cried out to Lord Vishnu.
Hearing the cry for help, Vishnu sent his Chakrayudha. The Chakra slayed the Demon and
released Kalavar.
There arose a famine, which lasted for twelve years. The Brahmins went away to the fertile
banks of the Ganges. Then, they
went to river Saraswati. Their saraswata was reciting the Yajurveda. Version was
different from that of the Brahmins. The
Brahmins told him that his version was wrong. They took the case before Brat. He was not
able to decide and prayed to Lord
Vishnu for assistance. Lord Vishnu told Brahma that the Peepal tree inPullaranyam would
point out the correct version. During the recital, if the leaves did shake, then that text
could be deemed correct. |
