TRIPLICANE |
|
By whom and when
the main temple was originally constructed is not known, but it is said to have been
renovated by a king of the Pallava dynasty. The temple was for some time under the
authority of the Dutch merchants who occupied the front part of the temple during their
attack on San Throne in the 17th Century A.D., when it was under the command of the
French. Later on they handed over Triplicane and the temple to the East India Company and
they remained under them till 1843 when they were handed over to 3 respectable persons of
the locality to administer according to the usages and traditions of the
institutions.
The idol of Parthasarathy worshipped in the temple is made of black granite stone and the
figure is so imposing that it immediately attracts the mind of the devotees. The piercing
eyes penetrate deep into the heart. The devotee loses himself and a momentary merger takes
place. It is better realised than expressed. |
