Recall
the out-quoted couplet eulogizing the Kshetra- " Gangadhara samam theertham
kshetram Simhadrivina. Narasimha samam devo, trilokya nasti nischayam".
There exists no place in the world that equals to Simhachalam and a holy pond to
Ganadhara and God to Narasimha. So a detailed account of the holy past of the
temple and the reason for the change of Chandanalankara alone still your
couriosity. So read below.
With
the dawn of Tretayuga, this holy region was nothing but a primeval forest, when
nature paraded its pristine glory and established its full sway making
impenetrable to humans. During then Pururava, one of the renowned
Shatchakravartbis happened to pass this way in his aerial chariot. When the
air-plane neared the precincts of the once great sanctum, it became motionless
and found suspending in the mid-air itself. Struck with wonder and desired to
finding out the cause, he descended with his celestial companion Urvasi. No
sooner did she step on the soil, she at once remembered the splendid past of the
Kshetra. She then said, "This land, your Majesty was the abode of Sri
Mahavishnu, when the Mukkoti Devatas worshipped Sri Varahanarasimhaswamy with
unprecedented ardor. And I also joined them to partake the merit of worshipping
him. I guess by stopping of plane that somewhere in this area the archamurthi is
hidden. Please make a search for it. and if installed and worshipped, sure
mankind will be emancipated and you will become immortal. This act will
definitely usher in the much -sought after Narasimhaposana cult and your
long-standing desires too will be fulfilled soon".
