The
power of devotion is not restricted to place or person. Gods have not monopolized
this field. It encompasses animate and inanimate worlds also. Even
the shapeless and voiceless objects too are moved, rather dominated by it. It
has a magical quality of dumb speak and keeping the adored at its beck and call.
Rivers, though not have the power of speech, they have hearts overflowing with
milk of kindness. And are infinitely human to relieving the distress of the
highly evolved souls in the realm of spirit. They resort to unnatural courses to
help the devout. Of course, they are the visible manifestation of goddesses with
awe-some back ground together with well established association with the highest
Trinity. The episode occurred in the upper Himalayan region, the source of major
rivers, like Ganges, Yamuna etc. Here again an aged devotee comes into picture
and with his peerless devotion wins the river Goddess's depthless anugrah. Read

This
place like Gangotri also is inhabited by sages, and in the past many did penance
and obtained salvation. For penance, it is the most suitable spot. There is a
stogy current in this part, that once a great sage by name Asit lived here. He
was taking bath both at Yamunotri and Gangotri daily, and this he continued till
reaching his ripe old age. When he could not go to Gangotri, a long distance for
bath in his tattering age, Gangotri taking pity on him, emerged from a rock in a
soft stream near Yamunotri for facilitating his daily bath. This place is held
in high esteem since then. Besides this miracle, there occurred here another
interesting episode connected with Hanuman's life. The place where Yamunotri
descends to this world is called Bundar punch monkey's tall. According to local
version, it was here in this ice cool water of Yamuna, Hanuman dipped his tail
to extinguish its fire after burning Lanka. so held in veneration by all.
