Though the inscriptional evidence eludes the grasp, none can dispute the fact that Belur remains as a Vaishnava strong hold since the days of Bittideva. Though the guru ordained Bittideva to build five Vishnu shrines - Pancha Narayanas only three are now breathing life under three distinct names m different places, like Kirti Narayana at Talakadu, Vijaya Narayana at Belur and Vira Narayana at Gadag. Of the three extant, Belur stands supreme and is visited by millions.
