And this was done about ten centuries
before. There lies the holy Chakra thirtha very near enabling the visiting
public to take holy bath. The architectural splendour of this tower is of high
order deserving unqualified praise. Chola kings who succeeded to Pallavas in
adorning this temple, and adoring Sri Kalahasteeswar, broadened the prakaras and
widened parikramana marg. Credit goes to Kulothunga Chola for this memorable
Kainkarya. Finally, with the building of the hundred pillared mandap by Sri
Krishna Devaraya, the Andhrabhoja after his conquest of Kalinga, the
constructional programme reached Finale. Several pious
bhaktas and philanthropists built pendli mandap etc., for the benefit of locals
and yatris. Some of the devout members of the royal families built mandapas and
flight of stairs from temple to Kannapa temple atop. The building project
commencing from the tenth century thus spread over ten centuries to take the
present shape. All donors were richly rewarded by the infinite compassion of the
Lord. He is karunaika sindhu, whose compassion knows no bounds, nor his hands
ever found shrunk to giving boons.
