Kumaraswamy Hill
To
the east of this shrine, there lies another smaller hillock with a small shrine
dedicated to Kumaraswamy. It is also a single celled mandir with the image of
Kumaraswamy installed on a high pedestal. It is, a good specimen of expert
artistry. The borad neat courtyards surrounding are maintained with such spick
and span, that they tempt the visitors to sit for long, recalling the glorious
role he played in life. Its eminence, though not too high, affords an impressive
view of the pilgrim town. It is provided with flight of stairs for easy ascent.
It is said that this was built by an old devout woman solely. In addition to
this mandir, she caused a tank dug up at her cost for supply of water to puja
purpose and pilgrims convenience. The tank goes by the name of Baamma Koneru,
signifying her contribution. It is in
this tank, the Float festival for the Adidampathis is
celebrated on a grand scale on the day next to Mahasivaratri. Huge crowds
congregate and their lusty participation turns the hill into Bhukailas. It is a
gala function worth a visit indispensable. Special pujas are offered to
Kumaraswamy in Ashadamasa with Brahmotsavam on a scale befitting his status, as
the potent deity, who taught Pranava, to the most potent Daivam - his own father
Paramasiva.
