MOTHER'S
MIRACLE AND ITS AFTERMATH
The
story goes that a certain police officer being pompous and
power-intoxicated did not allow
the customary display of weapons on that day
by any-local chieftain or the temple authority too
though it has been practiced over centuries. Being
a day set apart for Ayudapuja, his action was
resented. Mediation, persuasion, solicitation all
went up in smoke. People in fear put up the humiliation
in tight-lipped silence. Would the Mother
Kanakadurgeswari brook defeat or relish such-intervention?
Certainly not! She took the white
man's intervention offensive and stopping of
the celebration of Ayudapuja an insult to her. So
she resorted to the demonstration of her mighty
powers. Soon things moved mysteriously and
as such the officer received a cable from England
that he was dismissed due to abuse of powers.
Forthwith, he quashed his own order of stopping
the display of arms and joined the public celebration
with utmost jubilation and infinite rejoicing.
Well, then he received another cable from same England reinstating
him to the previous post, canceling the dismissal ordered for.
His
cup of happiness was full. But lot the Mother
s overflowed! The public drank to their hearts
content the nectar of Mother's illimitable, invincible,
inexhaustible, irrepressible power; Quicker
the realisation of this immutable truth greater the bliss, duller
the comprehension, surer the
misfortune and faster its down fall too. The department
realising its folly came forward to atone
it by unbounded enthusiasm in participation and
celebration.
Hence
the hilarity. Hail Mother hail! Let they sports be enacted on and
again; Let thy miracles turn so miraculous that ever, the miracles
too wonder with eyes wide open at thy mysterious might and bend
their heads in humility.
