abiding on this hill after destroying Sumba Nisumbas, Sarabhasura,
Mahishasura and Durgasura in the roles of Durga, Vugra Chandi,
Bhadrakali etc. It is also the favorite seat of Lord Maheswar, who
on demonstrating his spectacular powers made this Indrakilaparvatha
his permanent abode at the instance of his ardent worshippers. It is

Krishna flowing beside the Indrakila since the primeval times is
blessing the region with bumper crops, besides offering Jalabhisheka
to the holy Indrakila for bearing on its head the Omni compassionate
malleswaraswam and the Omnipotent Mother Kanakadurga. It is this
divya mahanagara ruled by illustrious monarchs of imperial dynasties
in the dim past, whose monumental achievements are recorded and
preserved in the archives. It is this Punya dharithri that has been
passed for a renowned yatrasthala and imprinted its glory on the
golden leaves of the itihasas as a famous Triputi-for embodying
three covetable factors - kshethram, thirtham and daivam, which
elevated its position to the highest pinnacle, as one of the
indispensable visit-worthy places of Bharata Khanda. The trimphant
victories it has to its credit in the realms of religion,
literature, commence, fine arts etc. achieved in the past by the
righteous rulers made it a virtual Vijayapuri and now goes by the
name of Vijayawada. A little probe into its significant past is a
necessity of utmost importance now.
