It was at this time, the Chola empire was ruled by
Vishnu Vardhan, belonging to Lunar dynasty and he was the ninth
descendant of Arjun, the celebrated Pandava
prince of Mahabharat fame. He was an emperor of indomitable valour
and unquenchable rajyadaha. His supreme military prowess and superb
strategy swallowed kingdom after kingdom both in the south and
north.
These are his enviable virtues; but quite
natural to a kshatriya prince of his desired to establish
paramountacy over the entire Bharata Khanda, and he had means and
resources aplenty to materialize his intense passion. In a way,
commendable according to the Kshatriya traditions of his
day.
