PANGUNI UTHARAM 

It is a ten-day festival falling on the day of Uthara Nakshatra in the ascendant, corresponding to March-April on the Gregorian calendar. The scene of action is the Avinankudi temple. As it is held in the off season, farmers form a great bulk and their offerings of paddy enrich the temple granary. Utsav of the Muthukumar swamy is a regular feature throughout this 10-day festival. Of the ten days, the seventh one is ear-marked for special functions. It is on this day, the Utsav vigrah is taken to the river for sacred bath. It is the annual Rathotsav day. 

The temple car-is drawn by countless devotees. Illuminations, spiritual activities, like Nayyandi melam, Villu pattu, Bommalatam, kalakshepams, karagam dance etc. heighten the glory of the Lord. It is a day of days to be remembered for ever. The visiting pilgrims, besides feasting their eyes and ears with divine sights of deities appearing in their fiery and jewellery enjoy whole some food offered free in several places.
