KANDA SHASTHI

The Shashti - the sixth day occurring twice on the dark moon and bright moon days of every month is very soared to Muruga. Pious devotees of Muruga offer special pujas on this day and observe partial or full fast. It is recorded that on the Aipasi masa shashti, Muruga killed that formidable Surapadman, the terror of gods and humans. 

So this day marks the end of evil and it inaugurated peace and progress in the world above and below. This great victory is commemorated with unprecedented religious éclat throughout the land, where Murugan cult is prevalent. The temples celebrate this auspicious day with many special prayer services in token of recognition of the valour and devotion for it.

It is a o day festival packed with awe-inspiring activities. In addition to reciting the glory of Muruga from the relevant scriptures, giant sized images of demons particularly that of Surapadma are destroyed akin to burning of the. effigies of Ravana on the Vijayadasami day in the North.
