Although
the temple is kept open as early as at 4:30 A.M. Regular Puja and Darshan are
allowed at fixed timings only. And there are six types of prayer services
offered regularly with strict adherence to the timings fixed.
The
Viswarupadarsanam, the first of the six pujas begins at 5 A.M. sharp, followed by
Vizha Puja at 7.15 A.M. The Kalasanthi Puja at 8 A.M. and Sirukala Shanthi at 9
A.M. The Uchikalam or midday puja is at 12 noon. Sayaraksha or evening puja at
5:30 P.M. followed by Rakkalam. The rituals offered during each item are quite
elaborate and are accorded sanction by the agamas. Conservatism and orthodoxy
are quite discernible in all types. Yet, even the modern west-faced youth also
stands and waits.
