According to one legend, it is
the earliest and first abode of Muruga after leaving Mount
Kailas. He held his royal darbar here once attended by many
celebrated divinities and saint seers.
And they were
emancipated after due worship. It was located under a
Nelli tree in the beginning, but philanthropists
spending lavishly renovated it at the end of last century.
Later many more additions and alterations were carried out
by Chettairs of Karaikudi and Kandanur.
