This
kshetra acquired immense sanctity and spiritual glory by a great yagna performed
by Tikkanna, one of the greatest poets of Telugu literature. He enriched the
world literature by his masterly translation of Vyasa Mahabharata into Telugu
and divinised this place. with that mahayagna and which in turn immortalised
him. He was honoured with the honorific title 'Somayaji' only after that
monumental act. The place by then it self was famous for its temple dedicated to
Kamakshi Tayi. Its earlier glory in the form of many lain monuments is seen even
today. But they are scattered to nooks and corners. So the history of this
sacrosanct kshetra can be traced to pre-Christian era. The temple undergoing
renovations from time to time is built in vesara architectural design and
possesses all the indispensable parts: Immensity greets the eyes. The Mother's
icon is quite pleasant and benign in aspect. Agamic worship is offered and it is
enjoying visitors through out the year. Literary men of all classes deem the
visitation an indispensable duty to pay homage to Tikkannas yagna bhumi and to
Mother's boundless compassion for the inspiration she blessed to get his master
peace universal recognition.
