This
natural lake of Andhra Pradesh has been a vertiable haven for migratory birds
for over centuries. Birds from Saibaria and Fiji islands visit this colourful
island during October and November and fill the atmosphere with their pleasant
sounds, besides feasting eyes of the beholders with their queer shapes, sizes
and colours. There is a temple here dedicated to Jaladurga, popular as Peddinti
Ammavaru. Known for omni compassion, she is extending succor to the anguished
and ill-fated bhaktas. Daily puja is offered with due religious favour. The
annual Jatara is celebrated on a grand scale during March, luring thousands of
pious devotees from several far off places. On account of spectacular scenery
around it, its tourist appeal is very great. Gay youth and pious bhaktas visit
often for mental peace and spiritual solace.
It is accessible
by bus from nearly by towns like kaikalu.
