Built
in the Dravidan architectural style, this ancient temple has long legendary
significance. It is a symbolical representation of the sacred AUM and resembles
it in construction. According to legend, the holy image was brought from Kasi by
a Nandavara Brahmin who migrated to this region in the past. And there is a
belief current that this statue is Mata Annapurneswari itself and the aborers are instantly relieved off their worries, if they offer
soulful prayers.
Moreover,
the potent deity was the kuladevata of Nadavaram brahmins and Kogativira
Kshatriyas who endowed the temple munificently with lands and precious valuables.
Daily worship is offered with elaborate rituals and great veneration, and the
annual festivals like Navaratri and Ugadi are celebrated with utmost pomp and
splendour befitting its sanctity and piety.
It
lies in Nandavaram of Kurnool District in Andhra Pradesh, accessible by bus.
